Privacy Policy
PixoScan is built so that there is almost nothing to write a privacy policy about: the app has no backend, no account and no cloud sync. This page explains exactly what that means.
1. The short version
Your scans, thumbnails, generated PDFs and recognised text are stored on your device only. We operate no server that receives them, so we cannot read, share or lose your documents. Deleting the app deletes them.
2. Data we collect
We do not collect your documents. Capture, edge detection, perspective correction, filters, PDF generation and text recognition (OCR) all run locally on the device.
The limited data that does exist is:
- An anonymous app user id. A random identifier generated on first launch and used by our payment processor to match your device to your subscription. It is not linked to your name, email or phone number.
- Subscription status. Whether your subscription is active, the plan and the renewal date, so the app knows what to unlock.
- Support emails. If you contact us, we receive the address you write from and whatever you choose to include.
3. Service providers
RevenueCat
Subscriptions are managed with RevenueCat, which receives the anonymous user id and the purchase receipt issued by the store. It never receives your documents.
Apple App Store and Google Play
Payment is processed entirely by the store you bought from, under its own privacy policy. We never see your payment details. Stores may also give us aggregated, anonymised analytics about downloads and crashes.
4. Device permissions
- Camera — to scan documents, ID cards, passports, receipts, business cards and QR codes.
- Photo library — to import existing pictures as scans, and to save exported images back to your library.
- Contacts — only when you choose to save details read from a scanned business card.
- Face ID / biometrics — only to unlock the app instead of typing your PIN. Biometric data never leaves the secure hardware of your device.
Every permission is requested at the moment you first use the feature, and the app keeps working without the ones you decline.
5. Sharing and exports
When you share or export a document, it leaves the app through the system share sheet and goes wherever you send it — an email, a messaging app, Files or iCloud/Drive. From that point the receiving service's own privacy policy applies.
6. Children
PixoScan is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
7. Your rights
Because your documents are only on your device, you control them directly: delete a document in the app, or delete the app to remove everything. For the anonymous user id and subscription record held by our payment processor, write to us and we will delete what we can — bearing in mind that store purchase records are kept by Apple and Google under their own retention rules.
8. Changes
If this policy changes we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be announced in the app.
